Each year more than 1 million marine animals are killed by plastic in the ocean. Besides turtles also dolphins, fish and birds. Keep reading to find out why we made turtles our mascot.
About 100 million tons of plastic are already in the oceans around the world.
More plastic waste gets into the ocean all the time. In average one garbage truck per minute.
Education is key to solve the plastic crisis. To raise awareness for the issue and teach people around the globe about recycling, we run our own small scale recycling workshop. Our team invites locals, tourists and students to collect trash and recycle it hands on.
Our first workshop is based in Thailand but we are working to establish workshops in Cambodia, Costa Rica, Indonesia, Kenya, Nepal and Peru during 2020.
We collect trash along canals, rivers and beaches. That way we either remove trash from the ocean or at least prevent more trash from getting there.
We sort the plastic trash by what kind of plastic it is and clean it. That’s a difficult process and the main challenge of recycling, anywhere in the world.
We shred the plastic, melt it and injection mould new items, such as necklaces, cloth spins, rulers, combs and more.
Together with local partners we’re supporting hands-on education and research. We’re especially proup of or research partnership with Real Recycling that resulted in an open source device to identify common kinds of plastic. With another one of our partners, The Green Lion, we’re working on actual turtle conservation programs and have released tens of thousands of turtles into the ocean. Do we need to say any more?
Best way to support us is to buy one of our recycled products. It gives a strong message to everybody visiting or working in our workshop and helps us employ more locals to collect more plastic. In average, every necklace / bracelet / earring we sell allows us to collect about 4 pounds of plastic along rivers and beaches that otherwise would have ended up in the ocean.
Besides you can support us through in-kind sponsorships or by sponsoring our recycling machines for new workshops. If you are interested, please reach out to us so we can discuss the most suitable option.
